AskOwlo – Terms of Service

Welcome! These Terms set the ground rules for using the AskOwlo mobile app (the “App”). We keep the language friendly, but this is still a binding contract between you (the Parent or Guardian) and AskOwlo BV ("AskOwlo", "we", "us"), Koninginneweg 12, 1075 CX Amsterdam, Netherlands.
1. Your Agreement
- You are 18 years or older and the legal parent or guardian of any child who will use the App.
- You have read, understood, and agree to these Terms and to our separate Privacy Policy.
2. What AskOwlo Provides
AskOwlo is a voice-first educational experience where children ask questions and our characters reply with short, story-style answers.
Safety & privacy first: Every interaction is filtered for child-safety, handled through encrypted channels, and reviewed if automatically flagged.
3. Creating an Account & Child Profiles
- A parent account is required and verified via a one-time email code.
- After giving consent, you may create one or more child profiles (alias, birth year, gender, language).
- You promise that each profile belongs to your own child and that you’ll supervise their use.
4. Your Right to Use the App
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the App for non-commercial, family use only.
Please don’t:
- Copy, reverse-engineer, or scrape our code or artwork.
- Upload anything illegal, harmful, or belonging to someone else.
- Use the App with anyone else’s children without their parent’s permission.
5. Payments & Subscriptions
- Some features may require a paid plan. Prices are shown in-app (VAT/sales tax included).
- Payments are processed by the relevant app store; their store terms also apply.
- You can cancel at any time via the store settings. Refunds are handled by the store.
6. Content Ownership & Your Feedback
- We own all AskOwlo characters, stories, graphics, and audio.
- You own your child’s questions (voice & text) but license us to process them only to run the App.
- If you send us ideas or feedback, you agree we may use them royalty-free to improve AskOwlo.
7. Our AI, Safety & Privacy
The App uses advanced artificial-intelligence and text-to-speech technologies hosted in the European Union.
We invest heavily in child-safety:
- All traffic is encrypted.
- Automated filters block inappropriate content.
- Human review addresses any flagged conversation within 24 hours.
Even with safeguards, AI may still produce errors. Please use parental judgment.
8. Third-Party Services
We rely on a small set of trusted cloud and AI service providers to power speech-to-text, text generation, audio playback, storage, and payments. While we strive for uninterrupted service, we are not responsible for outages, content, or actions on their side.
9. Ending or Deleting Your Account
- You may delete your parent account or any child profile at any time in the App or via hello@askowlo.com.
- We may suspend or end your access if you violate these Terms or as required by law.
10. Indemnity
If your unlawful or reckless use of the App causes us legal trouble, you agree to cover our reasonable costs and damages.
11. Our Liability
- The App is provided “as is.” We cannot guarantee it will be error-free or available 100% of the time.
- To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential damages.
- If we are held liable, our total responsibility is capped at the amount you paid during the last 12 months (or €50 if you never paid).
12. Severability & Survival
If a court finds any part of these Terms invalid, the rest still apply. Clauses on content ownership, indemnity, liability limits, and governing law survive account deletion.
13. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by Dutch law. Disputes will go to the courts of Amsterdam unless local consumer laws give you a different right.
14. Entire Agreement
These Terms plus the Privacy Policy form the entire agreement between you and us unless we sign something else in writing.
15. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms for new features or legal needs. We’ll notify you in-app or by email. Continuing to use the App after changes means you accept the new Terms.
